On July 31, another meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took place. The agenda of the meeting included not only military issues but also global economic challenges capable of destabilizing the situation on the continent. The central topics were the logistics crisis and the threat of new large-scale migration waves.
Food security as a factor of geopolitical stability
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his statement published on Telegram, emphasized the critical importance of uninterrupted grain exports. According to him, effective logistics is not just a commercial issue, but a contribution to global food security and a tool to counter the rising cost of living.
The head of state pointed to specific regions whose stability directly depends on food supplies: countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Zelensky warned that any social upheavals in these zones, caused by rising food prices, will inevitably lead to new tangible risks for Europe.
"Every such crisis in regions near Europe provokes additional migration waves," the president noted. He emphasized that protecting the agricultural sector and maritime trade routes from Russian terror is a direct interest of all of Europe, as this prevents humanitarian disasters outside the EU.
Crisis in Ceuta: a vivid example of the threat
The words of the Ukrainian leader are supported by real events in Europe. As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, the autonomous Spanish enclave of Ceuta is experiencing the most serious migration crisis in recent years. In a single day, up to 50,000 people illegally entered Spanish territory from Morocco, including about 7,000 minors.
The situation in the enclave has reached a boiling point: army units were deployed to maintain order. The tragedy did not spare those who tried to cross the border by other means — the death of at least 27 migrants who drowned while trying to swim to Spain has been confirmed.
The scale of the problem is so great that Italy has already announced it is considering the possibility of suspending the Schengen agreement with Spain. This decision could become an unprecedented step in the history of European Union integration.
Military threats and new demands on allies
In addition to economic and humanitarian issues, the Headquarters discussed direct military threats. Ukrainian intelligence provided data on Russia's plans to launch new strikes on the country's territory, including against civilian vessels. Zelensky stated that Kyiv is already preparing countermeasures to these intentions.
To conclude the meeting, the President of Ukraine voiced an unexpected demand to an American politician. Volodymyr Zelensky called on Donald Trump to secure permission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use the Starlink satellite system on Russian territory. According to Kyiv, this step is necessary to ensure communication and coordinate actions in the conditions of the ongoing war.
