The night of September 3, 2026, was marked for Ukraine by massive strikes from Russian aviation and drones. According to data published by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram, the destruction in a single night was recorded in 13 regions of the country, while in several cities and communities the air alert has been virtually nonstop due to the ongoing threat of jet-powered drones.
Consequences of the Attack in Odesa
The head of state paid particular attention to the situation in Odesa, where emergency services continue to work at the site of a drone strike on a residential high-rise building. Due to damage to apartments on the 10th through 17th floors, 17 people were injured, including three children. As local media report, energy facilities in Odesa Oblast were also damaged as a result of the night attack, creating additional risks for the region's power supply.
Scale of the Strikes: 13 Regions Under Fire
Work to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack is ongoing in both the Obukhiv and Boryspil districts, where State Emergency Service (SES) rescuers are deployed, including in extinguishing a fire at a pharmaceutical company's warehouse. Strikes were recorded in Mykolaiv, Kherson, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Khmelnytskyi. In total, according to Zelensky, the destruction in a single night was recorded in 13 regions, with Kyiv and Odesa oblasts, as well as territories in the west of the country, coming under attack.
"The Enemy Didn't Go on Vacation": Zelensky on the New Escalation
The President separately drew attention to the threat of Russian jet-powered drones, due to which air alerts in many cities and communities have virtually ceased to subside. "The enemy didn't go on vacation – the Russians have found a new escalation and are not planning to slow it down," Zelensky stated, emphasizing that Ukraine needs to strengthen its response and counter to Russian attacks.
Priorities: Accelerating Air Defense Production in Europe
In particular, this refers to accelerating European production of defense systems, primarily air defense, as well as developing both missile defense and anti-drone defense. According to Zelensky, Europe is capable of being self-sufficient and strong, and the work done over the previous years lays the foundation for this. The President also reported that Ukraine continues daily work with partners on new defense packages, and thanked everyone who is helping the country in its common defense.
Thus, the night attack of September 3 once again confirmed the high intensity of Russian strikes and brought to the forefront the task of strengthening air-defense missile and anti-drone defense. As noted in Kyiv, the key condition for reducing risks to citizens is accelerating the production of air defense systems in Europe and the prompt formation of new defense packages.
