Vitaliy Bunetsko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, reported that over the course of 24 hours Russian forces systematically attacked the region with strike drones. According to him, the enemy had been "terrorizing" the oblast with drones since the morning of the previous day. Air defense forces shot down some of the machines, however, as the head of the RMA confirmed, impacts on the territory of the oblast were recorded. The result of the attacks was two killed and two wounded, who were delivered to medical facilities, as well as damage to a number of facilities. RBC-Ukraine reports this, citing the governor's Telegram channel.

Course of the attack and air defense operations

According to regional authorities, the shelling continued uninterrupted for 24 hours, indicating an attempt by the enemy to overload air defense systems and inflict maximum damage under conditions where air defense assets are already engaged. Despite some of the drones being shot down, the pilots-operators of the enemy drones managed to carry out several strikes on ground targets. Bunetsko emphasized that rescue and special services are continuing to eliminate the consequences under the constant threat of repeated raids, which limits access to the sites of destruction and slows down recovery.

Damaged infrastructure and civilian facilities

As a result of the strikes, facilities of the fuel and transport infrastructure, as well as civilian buildings and the personal property of local residents, were damaged. As the publication notes, the enemy is deliberately using strike drones to hit precisely the civilian and industrial infrastructure of the region, and not only military targets. Damage to fuel and transport hubs can disrupt logistics and supply to border communities for several days, which increases the burden on local authorities and utility services.

Series of strikes on Zvyahel and other communities

Russian forces are not striking Zvyahel and other communities of Zhytomyr Oblast for the first time. In particular, on September 12 drones attacked a grocery store in Zvyahel: on that day two people were killed, local gas stations and an enterprise were hit. On the night of September 12, Russia struck the Cersanit plant in Zvyahel, where, according to reports, serious destruction occurred, causing production to be halted for at least six months. Thus, the series of attacks recorded in the past 24 hours is a continuation of the sustained tactic of shelling the industrial and civilian potential of the region.

Contradictory data

When reading the statements, it is important to distinguish between different episodes in order not to mix up the figures. The "two killed and two wounded" mentioned in the fresh RMA statement refer to the attacks of the past 24 hours, while two more killed were recorded earlier — during the strike on the grocery store in Zvyahel on September 12. That is, the cumulative damage over several days is higher than a single headline might suggest. In addition, the production halt period at the Cersanit plant — "at least six months" — is a preliminary estimate, not a final technical assessment, and may be refined as the destruction is evaluated. Independent international verification of the number of casualties and the scale of the damage was not conducted at the time of publication, so all figures are based on the statements of regional authorities.
