Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an evening video address on Telegram, announced that the country is preparing a series of meetings with American partners that, in his words, are meant to strengthen Kyiv's position in the war against Russia. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine. The head of state emphasized that the talks will cover a wide range of issues — from bringing peace closer to specific packages of military and economic support.

Announcement of Meetings with American Partners

"We are preparing meetings with our partners in the United States of America. This concerns negotiations and bringing peace closer. There are also some other very significant issues: in particular, energy, food security, and weapons," Zelensky stated. According to him, within the framework of these contacts, new support packages for Ukraine will be agreed upon, primarily concerning air defense.

Talk Topics: Peace, Energy, Food, Weapons

Thus, the agenda of the upcoming contacts with Washington goes beyond the purely military sphere. The president highlighted three blocks: diplomatic (negotiations and bringing peace closer), economic (energy and food security), and military-technical (supplies of weapons and air defense). This reflects Kyiv's attempt to link the negotiation and defense tracks into a single package of agreements with its key ally.

Expansion of the Anti-Ballistic Coalition and the Freya Program

Separately, Zelensky announced the preparation to expand the anti-ballistic coalition. "The task is unchanged — this year we need to prepare a result that can be tested. We need a system, an effective system, and one that is sufficiently large-scale, and, preferably, cheaper than what is currently available in the world," he noted. The president thanked his supporters, emphasizing that the largest contribution is now being made by "strong European companies" participating in Ukraine's Freya program, and announced the continuation of productive cooperation with manufacturers and states.

Context: Possible Meeting with Trump in New York

Zelensky's announcement comes against the backdrop of preparations for a potential meeting with US President Donald Trump in New York on September 21–23. As previously reported, on September 14 the head of the Ukrainian state stated that he intended to discuss with the American leader the possibility of an energy and maritime ceasefire. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry confirmed that Kyiv and Washington are preparing this meeting. Meanwhile, following the US statement about a possible agreement on an energy ceasefire, Kyiv, according to RBC-Ukraine, is awaiting a specific mechanism guaranteeing Russia's compliance with the terms.

Contradictory Data

There is a notable spread between the official formulations and their interpretation. In Zelensky's address, the broad concept of "meetings with partners in the US" on several topics is mentioned, while the Foreign Ministry (citing fakty.com.ua) specifies the preparation of a personal meeting between Zelensky and Trump in New York. Moreover, some Ukrainian politicians and commentators (in particular, Sybiga, referenced by politics.comments.ua) read these signals as the approach of a ceasefire agreement, while Kyiv itself, according to RBC-Ukraine, insists on the existence of a guaranteeing mechanism and does not confirm the fact of an already reached agreement. Thus, a gap remains between the diplomatic announcement of "preparation of meetings" and the media interpretation of a "possible ceasefire," which has not been officially resolved by either side.

The outcome of Zelensky's statements is a picture in which Ukraine is simultaneously advancing the negotiation track with the US and strengthening its own air defense and anti-ballistic system, relying on European industrial capacities within the framework of the Freya program. The final scope of the agreements will become clear after the contacts in New York at the end of September.
