In the early hours of November 7, 2026, a massive attack was launched across Ukraine, during which, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia used 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles. As the head of state reported on his Telegram channel, cited by RBC-Ukraine, all ballistic missiles were directed at Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The main target of the strike, he said, was energy infrastructure, leading to a severe situation with the supply of electricity, water, and heat in the capital.

Scale of the nighttime attack

According to Zelenskyy, nine people were injured in the attack, including one child. In addition to Kyiv, twelve other regions of the country came under fire. In the capital, the president said, residential buildings and the Northern Bridge were damaged, and a kindergarten was partially destroyed. He stressed that Russia, while preparing for trilateral negotiations, continues to launch ballistic missiles at Ukraine's critical infrastructure, while repair and rescue operations are underway in areas where the situation permits.

Energy as the primary target

The key target of the nighttime strike was the energy sector. Zelenskyy reported that substations connecting the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants with Kyiv and central regions of Ukraine were struck in the Kyiv region. Furthermore, substations were damaged in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Dnipro oblasts. Thus, the strikes hit facilities ensuring the transmission of electricity from nuclear power plants to the central part of the country and the capital.

Consequences for Kyiv and the regions

An extremely difficult energy supply situation has developed in Kyiv, causing problems with heating and water supplies. According to available reports, consumers in two districts of Chernihiv Oblast, as well as in Chernihiv and Slavutych, were left without electricity. Damage to substations in several regions indicates that the consequences of the attack affect not only the capital, but also adjacent territories dependent on the unified power grid.

Call to allies

Commenting on the situation, Zelenskyy stated that when Russia tries to plunge multi-million Kyiv and the entire country into a blackout, «Ukraine cannot be left alone.» He emphasized that he counts on increased bilateral support from the United States and heightened attention to Ukraine from Congress. The statement came amid ongoing Russian strikes on critical infrastructure ahead of expected negotiations, according to him.
