Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed documents extending martial law and general mobilization in the country. According to an official statement published on the president's website and reported by RBC-Ukraine, both regimes will remain in effect until at least January 29, 2027. Thus, their validity has been extended for another 90 days.

Legislative Path of Extension

According to UNN, on October 26, 2026, the head of state submitted bills No. 16182 (on extending martial law) and No. 16183 (on extending general mobilization) to the Verkhovna Rada. According to the explanatory notes, martial law is proposed to be extended from 05:30 on October 31, 2026, for 90 days, and the period of general mobilization from October 31, 2026, for the same period. As reported by Moskovskij Komsomolets citing Ukrainian media, parliament supported both documents, after which they were signed by the president.

What Martial Law Means for Citizens

Under martial law, liable-for-military-service men aged 18 to 60 are required to comply with a number of requirements established by law. These norms are enshrined in current laws and apply to everyone registered for military service within the respective age range.

Mobilization Rules

Mandatory mobilization applies to men aged 25 to 60 who are deemed fit for health reasons and have no legal grounds for deferment. Before being sent to military units, all mobilized individuals undergo basic military training in training centers. Men aged 18 to 25 can be drafted only in cases specified by law — if they are reserve officers or have previously completed conscript military service; in other situations, joining the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for this age group is possible exclusively on a voluntary basis. Women registered for military service can be involved in the country's defense only of their own free will.

Context: 21st Extension of Regimes

According to RBC-Ukraine, this is the 21st extension of martial law and mobilization since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Regular extension of the regimes in 90-day cycles has become an established practice throughout the entire period of the conflict.
