Kraaken: A Floating Data Center Powered by Ocean Heat Capable of Disaster Relief
🌊 **Kraaken: Floating Data Center Powered by Ocean Heat**
Optimal Transit has presented a concept for an autonomous offshore data center capable of generating energy and desalinating water.
🔹 **Technology:** Uses ocean heat (DOT) and waste heat from servers.
🔹 **Power:** Versions available at 10–20 MW and 50–100 MW.
🔹 **Desalination:** Up to 30,000 m³ of water per day.
🔹 **Mobility:** Can flee from a tsunami at speeds up to 16 knots.
💰 **Price:** ~$500 million for 100 MW (2-3 times cheaper than land-based data centers).
Currently a concept, but the battle for floating data centers is already underway: Keppel, Panthalassa, and Samsung are also involved. 🚀
