TV presenter Aleksey Sukhanov, in a candid conversation, spoke publicly for the first time about his diagnosis — diabetes, which, according to him, he did not even suspect for a long time. The presenter admitted that he only learned about the illness when his physical condition had become critical, and a doctor, examining his test results, could not understand how he was still holding on at all. The details were revealed by the Styler project from RBC-Ukraine (original article).

Years spent "in the dark"

According to Sukhanov, the disease had been present in his body long before he knew about it. "I found out unexpectedly, already around the sixth year of this diabetes existing," the TV presenter said. During this period he felt extremely unwell: he had almost no strength left, yet he continued to go to work and carry out his professional duties, not understanding the true cause of his exhaustion.

"I don't know how you're still holding on"

The turning point was his visit to the doctor. "When I really had no strength left at all, and when the doctor looked at my test results and said, extremely flustered: 'I don't know how you're still holding on'," Sukhanov recalled. "But I was forced to work, I had no strength... And that is how I found out about my diabetes." The presenter emphasized that coping with the workload in such a condition was extremely difficult.

Not just sweets: the role of stress

Speaking about the possible causes of the disease, Sukhanov insisted that diabetes cannot be reduced solely to eating sweets. "Diabetes is not just about sweets. It's stress, that's a huge problem," he stated, pointing to the psychological component of chronic illnesses. At the same time, the TV presenter admitted that he is reluctant to talk about his own ailments, noting that people now have other, more pressing problems.

Contradictory data

When comparing publications from different outlets, a discrepancy in the chronology is revealed. In the Styler (RBC-Ukraine) article, Sukhanov directly refers to the "sixth year" of the diabetes' existence, whereas in the Unian publication the diagnosis is described as one he "has been living with for five years." In addition, a number of sources (Unian, Obozrevatel, Glavred) characterize the disease as an "incurable diagnosis" / "incurable illness," while in the original Styler source the talk is specifically of "diabetes." The one-year difference is probably due to rounding or to the point counted from the diagnosis rather than from the onset of the disease; however, the exact figure and the nature of the illness are not unambiguously recorded in the presenter's public statements.

Attitude toward the illness

Despite the severity of his condition at the time of discovery, Sukhanov treats his diagnosis with restraint and does not make it a public story. He emphasizes that the illness is a reason to reflect on the role of chronic stress in a modern person's life, not a reason for pity. Earlier, the Styler project also wrote about why Aleksey Sukhanov, in his own words, is not afraid of death.
