Significant personnel changes have taken place within the structure of the President's Office of Ukraine. Former Economy Minister Alexey Sobolev has officially joined the President's team. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confirming information previously reported by RBC-Ukraine.
New Powers and Strategic Tasks
The decision to bring Sobolev back to the President's administration was made following consultations with the Head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov. The President has defined a clear direction for the former minister: he will oversee the economic sector and ensure communication between the state and the business community.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Alexey Sobolev's experience is critical for shaping economic policy. According to the head of state, Sobolev will effectively interact with the government and parliamentarians to advance the interests of the national economy.
The key priorities of the new position will be:
- Supporting Ukrainian producers at all levels of government.
- The prompt implementation of agreements with international partners.
- Constant dialogue between state institutions and the business community within the formats of the President's Office.
Context of Personnel Changes
Sobolev's appointment comes against the backdrop of a large-scale government reform. On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada approved the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister Serhiy Korytskyi. During these rotations, a structural change occurred: the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture was split into two separate bodies.
Alexey Sobolev, who headed the ministry since November 2025, left his post. He was replaced by Alexander Kravchenko, the managing partner of the Ukrainian office of the international consulting company McKinsey. Kravchenko now holds the post of Minister of Economy and Ecology, while Sobolev moves to work in the President's Office, where he will focus on strategic interaction between the authorities and business.
