Apple has announced the release date for the final versions of its mobile operating systems, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 — the launch is scheduled for September 14, 2026, i.e. within days of the current date. According to industry publications, the company has already shipped a Release Candidate build to developers and beta testers, which is a standard step before a public launch. At the same time as the mobile OS, updates to macOS 27 and watchOS 27 are expected to be released, allowing the device ecosystem to be synchronized on a single generation of system software.
New Siri: What Has Changed
The headline feature of the updates is a fully reworked Siri — a digital assistant that Apple developed jointly with Google based on Gemini language models. Early tests show that the updated assistant is capable of handling complex multi-step instructions and providing detailed answers to questions, rather than being limited to the short commands of previous versions. This positions Siri as a full-fledged AI assistant, not just a voice interface.
Cloud Computing Limits and the Role of iCloud+
Use of the new assistant's complex cloud algorithms will be subject to daily quotas. For users with an iCloud+ subscription, Apple has provided expanded limits on the use of such tools, effectively turning the subscription into a gateway to "heavy" AI capabilities. On newer devices (starting with the iPhone 17), local models run faster, delivering more accurate dictation and speech recognition without necessarily turning to the cloud.
Supported Devices and Languages
Due to high computational requirements, the intelligent assistant will only be available on relatively new devices. Among smartphones — the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (2023), as well as all models in the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and new iPhone 18 lines. Among tablets — the latest iPad mini, plus the iPad Air and iPad Pro with Apple M1 chips or newer. As for languages: English is available immediately, and in October Siri AI will speak five additional languages; the specific list of these five languages is not disclosed in the available materials.
Liquid Glass and Other System Updates
Besides artificial intelligence, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 have significantly updated the visual design language called Liquid Glass, expanded the set of parental controls and child safety features, and optimized overall system performance. Thus, the update goes beyond a single assistant and affects the entire user experience of Apple's mobile platforms.
