Apple has released the macOS Golden Gate 27.2 and watchOS 27.2 operating system updates, featuring a key linguistic upgrade to the Siri AI voice assistant. The company has added support for five new languages and improved the model's ability to retain the context of previous utterances using personal user data. However, access to the new capabilities is uneven, with a number of features unavailable in certain regions and on certain devices, making the update phased rather than universal.

Linguistic Upgrade and Context Handling

The main innovation of the release is the expansion of Siri AI's language base by five additional languages, allowing the assistant to understand and respond to requests in more localizations. At the same time, developers have enhanced context processing: the model better remembers the flow of previous conversations and takes personal user data into account when generating responses. The Messages app now features smart suggestions that allow users to create Calendar events or Reminders tasks in a single click directly from the chat, without switching between applications.

Restrictions for the EU and China

Despite the general release, the geographical availability of Apple Intelligence-based Siri AI remains fragmented. In European Union countries, the Apple Intelligence assistant is available only on Mac computers and the Vision Pro headset. To activate the smart assistant on a Mac, EU users must set a supported system language. A full rollout of the AI assistant on iPhones in this region is reportedly not expected until 2027 at the earliest. Restrictions for wearable devices are even stricter: the Siri AI feature remains completely blocked for Apple Watch in the EU region and mainland China.

Interface and Control Element Changes

Alongside functional changes, Apple has redesigned the appearance of the brightness and volume sliders. Now, when adjusting via keyboard shortcuts, the indicators change in short, crisp steps instead of the previous smooth bar, making control feedback more predictable. According to the developers, such tweaks should simplify working with system settings without using a mouse or trackpad.

Hidden Elements and Preparation for Touchscreen MacBooks

Analysts showed the greatest interest in hidden interface elements discovered in the update that are geared toward touch control. Their presence is seen as an indicator that the system is being prepared for the release of new MacBooks with touchscreen OLED displays. Formally, these elements are not activated for the end user in the current release, but their presence in the code indicates that Apple is building the infrastructure for the next line of tactile-display devices in advance.

watchOS 27.2 and Security Patch

A special version of watchOS 27.2 brought all of Siri AI's language improvements to Apple Watch and increased request processing speed. Along with the release of both operating systems, developers issued a bug-fix and security update for the entire fleet of compatible devices, resolving typical stability issues and vulnerabilities accumulated from previous versions. Thus, the 27.2 update combines notable user-facing features with background work on reliability and the future hardware lineup.
