Arctic Fox Technologies has announced the Super Mouse, a multi-functional computer mouse that stands out significantly from conventional peripherals. Instead of scattering customizable buttons all over the body, the developers placed a compact touchscreen display directly beneath the user's palm. The new device is positioned as a gadget capable of replacing several devices at once — a trackpad, macro pad, and even a streaming controller — while potentially taking over some keyboard functions in certain scenarios.
Display at Hand Instead of Buttons
The angular design of the Super Mouse suggests that traditional ergonomics were not the creators' main priority. The key element of the device is a 3.1-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 720 × 720 pixels, located on top right beneath a pair of standard buttons, a scroll wheel, and two customizable keys. This display format allows it to project a smartphone-style virtual keyboard with swipe typing support, making the mouse suitable for quick text entry without a separate keyboard.
Contextual Control Panel and Automation
The touchscreen is used for quickly launching applications via the so-called "Control Panel," which can host up to 16 shortcuts, macros, or launchers. Available display functions change depending on the context: the system populates relevant shortcuts based on the active application. For example, when working in Adobe Premiere, video editing tools appear on the screen. If the mouse does not recognize the application automatically, device functions can be configured manually via Arctic Fox's Flow desktop app. Separate profiles are supported for different scenarios — editing, gaming, and daily use.
Voice Input, Calendar, and Gesture Control
Among other features, the developers highlight event and meeting reminders when synchronized with Google Calendar, custom profiles, concentration timers, and productivity tracking. A standalone speech-to-text conversion feature is also worth noting: processing is performed locally, right inside the mouse, without sending data to the cloud. The body also features a built-in gyroscope that allows users to control slideshows or scroll through videos simply by moving and tilting the device.
Price, Pre-order, and Delivery Timeline
Currently, the Super Mouse is available for pre-order as part of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign priced at $199, after which retail prices will rise to $249. The developers plan to begin shipments next February, though this timeframe is tied to successfully meeting the funding goal for mass production. The device works with Windows and macOS.
Comparison with Alternatives and Limitations
This price tag makes the Super Mouse more expensive than most alternatives that combine a mouse and a touchscreen. For comparison: the Turtle Beach Command Series MC7 featured only a narrow 2.25-inch screen on the side of the body, whereas the Super Mouse has a larger display positioned on top. At the same time, judging by available data, the Super Mouse lacks a wireless mode: a USB Type-C port is provided for power and PC connectivity, ensuring a wired connection.
