Events on July 31 brought alarming news from Kyiv: an assassination attempt was made on Igor Obolensky, commander of the 'Kharta' battalion. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the attackers have already been detained.

President Personally Contacted Obolensky

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported in his Telegram channel that he personally spoke with Igor Obolensky following the incident. "There was an attempt on Igor's life today. The attacker and his accomplice have been detained," the head of state wrote.

This statement became the first official confirmation of the attempted murder of one of the most well-known commanders of Ukraine's volunteer formations.

The President also heard a briefing from the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Oleksandr Poklad, regarding the details of the assassination attempt. "We will definitely respond to this attempt to strike at Ukraine and a Ukrainian commander," Zelenskyy emphasized, adding that he thanked Obolensky for his service and wished him to "strike the occupiers even harder".
