On the night of August 1, Ukrainian security forces carried out a large-scale operation to strike strategic targets on Russian territory. According to RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the strike targeted three major oil refineries in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Attack on Bashneft’s Energy Cluster
The operation targeted facilities located deep in the enemy’s rear — nearly 1600 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border. Long-range SBU drones struck the infrastructure of the “Bashneft-UNPZ”, “Bashneft-Novoyl”, and “Bashneft-Ufaneftechim” plants. These facilities are part of the Bashneft company and form one of the largest oil refining clusters in the country.
The combined capacity of these plants exceeds 23 million tons of oil per year. The refineries produce a wide range of products: gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, and lubricants. According to the SBU, the resulting products are used to supply the needs of the Russian army.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the success of the operation, noting the precision of the SBU units. In his statement, he emphasized that oil refineries are legitimate military targets, as they not only supply the army with fuel but also generate significant revenue used to finance the war against Ukraine.
Strike on Air Defense Systems and Attacks in Crimea
In addition to the economic strike, Ukrainian drones hit defense infrastructure in the Krasnodar Krai. Three “Podlyot-K1” radar stations and one “Kasta-2E2” radar were destroyed. These systems are used by Russian forces to detect aerial targets.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported on the results of operations in Crimea. During the operation, a fleet of unmanned surface vessels, two railway bridges, and electronic intelligence units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet were struck. A repair base and drone warehouses were also hit.
Strike on Logistics in the Black Sea
On the same night, Ukrainian drones sank the Russian container ship “Yanina” in the Black Sea. The vessel belonged to FESCO, a company within the state corporation Rosatom.
Zelenskyy called these actions part of a long-range sanctions plan, which is being implemented “step by step,” exerting fair pressure on the enemy’s infrastructure.
