New Training UAV for Air Defense Operator Training

Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech has unveiled a new modification of a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle — the «Bebradron-M». This specialized version is designed for training pilots and operators of interceptor drones, as well as for practicing counter-air reconnaissance scenarios. The device can be used as a decoy target simulator, allowing for realistic exercises in detecting and neutralizing aerial threats.

Structurally, the «Bebradron-M» is similar to the combat version of the «Bebradron», but its internal components are adapted for training tasks. Specifically, the drone is not equipped with a warhead but can carry a payload of up to 2 kg. This allows for the installation of additional equipment on board, such as radio beacons or radar signature simulators.

Increased Radar Visibility and Tactical Scenarios

To increase radar visibility, foil materials are applied to the UAV's wings. This allows the device to create an additional mark on the enemy's radar, simulating a larger or more dangerous target. This approach is particularly relevant when practicing scenarios involving a large number of aerial targets, where it is necessary to train air defense operators under high detection system loads.

The «Bebradron-M» can operate at altitudes ranging from 200 to 700 meters, which corresponds to the typical flight altitudes of enemy tactical UAVs. Its cruising speed is 70 km/h, with a maximum speed of up to 115 km/h. Flight duration is up to 25 minutes, and the range is up to 30 km. Launch is carried out using a pneumatic catapult, and the device is equipped with an auto-landing function, simplifying its operation in field conditions.

Configuration Flexibility and Customization Options

Although the base version of the «Bebradron-M» does not have cruise control or navigation systems, BlueBird Tech offers the possibility of changing the configuration at the customer's request. In this case, necessary components can be installed, such as GPS modules, stabilization systems, or additional sensors. The cost of such a solution is calculated separately depending on the selected configuration.

The drone is controlled by an operator in real-time, allowing for precise control of its trajectory and behavior in the air. This is especially important when practicing complex scenarios where it is necessary to simulate enemy maneuvers or change course in response to air defense actions.

Contradictory Data

Some sources mention that the «Bebradron-M» can be used not only for training but also for reconnaissance tasks. However, official materials from BlueBird Tech emphasize that the drone's main function is training. Differences in interpretation may be related to the fact that some customers adapt the device to their needs by adding reconnaissance equipment. Nevertheless, in the base configuration, the drone is not intended for intelligence gathering.

Context: Response to the Threat of Jet Drones

The presentation of the «Bebradron-M» takes place against the backdrop of increased attention to threats from jet UAVs, such as the Russian BM-35 («Shahed»). Recently, Russian propagandists showed a story about the use of the BM-35 strike drone with a jet engine, capable of reaching speeds of over 350 km/h and flying distances of over 200 km. Last month, an expert for RBK-Ukraine explained how the Armed Forces of Ukraine would destroy jet «Shaheds» in the future, pointing to the need to develop their own interception systems and train operators.

The «Bebradron-M» becomes an important element in this strategy, allowing operators to train in conditions as close as possible to real combat scenarios. This is particularly relevant in conditions where the enemy actively uses drones to attack infrastructure and military objects.
