The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained another agent of Russian special services who guided Russian ballistics and attack drones to targets in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to RBC-Ukraine citing the SBU, the suspect turned out to be a local builder previously convicted of drug offenses.
How the spotter worked
The agent operated according to a clear scheme developed by handlers from the FSB. He walked around the territory of Kyiv and the region with a smartphone on which the GPS navigation function was activated. This allowed Russian special services to monitor the spy's movement routes in real time.
During reconnaissance sorties, the man photographed and filmed potential targets — logistics centers and warehouses. He transmitted the obtained data to his handler, marking the coordinates of the objects on Google Maps. In addition, he recorded the consequences of preliminary strikes, providing reports on the effectiveness of the attacks.
Detained 'in the act'
SBU officers stopped the criminal's activities at the moment he returned to the apartment of his acquaintances after another reconnaissance mission. The operatives detained him 'in the act,' not giving him the opportunity to destroy evidence.
The investigation established that the agent's recruitment took place through Telegram channels. In search of 'easy money,' the man came into the field of view of Russian special services, which offered him cooperation.
Threat of a life sentence
SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Context: 'Honeypots' and terrorist acts
The detention took place against the backdrop of increased activity of Russian special services on the territory of Ukraine. Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russia is more actively using 'honeypots' to kill Ukrainian military personnel, hunting for AFU fighters through dating sites.
Meanwhile, in Odesa on July 30, the SBU detained three agents of Russian special services. On July 28, the criminals carried out two terrorist acts by blowing up cars, which confirms the large-scale work of enemy intelligence services to destabilize the situation in the country.
