The Government of Ukraine intends to cancel its own decision on the creation of a new body regulating the deferment procedure for military personnel. At the Cabinet of Ministers meeting today, July 12, the issue of abolishing the Coordination Center for Deferment will be considered; the decision to create it was made by the previous composition of the government.
The history of the creation and disappearance of the document
The initiative to create the Coordination Center for Deferment was announced on July 8. According to the government resolution, the new body was to function as a temporary advisory and consultative body under the Cabinet of Ministers. Its tasks included coordinating the work of state structures on deferment issues, as well as considering proposals to recognize enterprises as critically important.
However, the very next day, the news about the adoption of this resolution disappeared from the official website of the Ministry of Economy. No official explanation for this fact followed, which gave rise to many questions and assumptions in business circles.
Resonance in the business community
Information that the Cabinet of Ministers will officially cancel the decision of July 8 today was confirmed by People's Deputy Olga Vasilevska-Smagliuk in her Telegram channel. According to her, the initiative caused a wide resonance among entrepreneurs and experts.
The main complaint of the business community was that the appearance of a new body would complicate an already convoluted deferment procedure. Experts feared that this would make the process less transparent and add unnecessary bureaucratic barriers for companies trying to retain their teams during mobilization.
Powers of the cancelled center
According to the original concept, the Coordination Center was to have significant influence on decisions regarding the status of enterprises. State bodies were obliged to take into account the recommendations of the center when making decisions on granting businesses the status of critically important. It was precisely this aspect that caused the greatest concern: the appearance of a new filter could become an obstacle to the legal deferment of employees.
The decision to cancel the resolution indicates that the government has listened to the criticism and is ready to adjust its policy regarding interaction with business on mobilization issues.
