Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has officially confirmed the end of the ceasefire regime in the Oleshky district of the Kherson region. According to him, «the ceasefire regime, which was in effect from October 27 to November 1, has ended.» Lubinets called this period «an important stage of joint humanitarian work» together with the Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova under the coordination of United States First Lady Melania Trump, RBC-Ukraine reports citing the Ombudsman's Telegram channel.
Compliance with Obligations by Both Sides
Throughout the duration of the ceasefire, according to Lubinets' assessment, both sides abided by their assumed obligations. This, he said, made it possible to deliver humanitarian aid to Oleshky and assist civilians who wanted to safely leave the city. The Ombudsman emphasized that maintaining the interaction mechanism between the sides is a key condition for further helping people and saving lives.
Evacuation of Residents After Six Months of Humanitarian Crisis
The practical outcome of the ceasefire was the evacuation of Oleshky residents to territory controlled by Ukraine on October 31. As Lubinets reminded, the townspeople had lived for almost six months in conditions of a humanitarian catastrophe. According to data at the time the mission concluded, hundreds of residents of the occupied city decided to stay in Ukraine. The successful implementation of this mission became the main practical result of the ceasefire agreements.
Prospects for Continuing the Humanitarian Dialogue
Currently, according to Lubinets, opportunities to continue similar humanitarian steps are being worked out together with Yana Lantratova. The Ombudsman stated that it is important to preserve the established interaction mechanism to continue helping people and saving lives. Thus, the end of the current ceasefire does not mean the termination of the humanitarian track, but is seen as a transition to working out the next stage.
International Context and Washington's Position
Following the successful implementation of the mission, US First Lady Melania Trump stated that the evacuation of Oleshky residents gives hope for establishing a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia. She also urged making Oleshky a starting point on the path to peace between the warring parties. Washington's coordinating role in organizing the ceasefire and evacuation underlines the international nature of this humanitarian effort.
