Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur has concluded her performance in the singles tournament of the prestigious WTA 1000 event in Wuhan, China. The athlete's milestone tenth match in the main draws of tournaments at this level ended in a disappointing defeat against Indonesia's Janice Tjen. The encounter lasted one hour and twenty-seven minutes, concluding with a score of 7:5, 6:3 in favor of the Asian tennis player.
The Flow of a Tense Match
From the very beginning of the match, an uncompromising battle unfolded on the court. In the first set, the opponents actively contested the return, repeatedly exchanging breaks and making fans anxious over every single point. Daria Snigur showed character, regularly fighting her way back into the game after losing her own serve; however, the crucial turning point of the set was a prolonged 12th game. Janice Tjen capitalized on her break opportunity, outlasted the Ukrainian, and closed out the set 7:5 in her favor.
Statistics and Reasons for Failure
In the second set, the scenario repeated itself: the Indonesian athlete seized the initiative once again and took the lead. Despite Snigur's attempts to turn the tide and win games on her own serve, Tjen extended her advantage to a comfortable 5:2. In the ninth game, the opponent converted her very first match point, securing a final score of 6:3. Over the course of the match, Snigur served one ace, committed three double faults, and racked up 34 unforced errors, while outperforming her opponent in winners (16 to 15), which, however, proved insufficient for victory.
Implications for the Ukrainian Team in Wuhan
This defeat made Daria Snigur the fifth Ukrainian tennis player to prematurely exit the singles tournament in Wuhan. Earlier, Angelina Kalinina, Yuliia Starodubtseva, Marta Kostyuk, and Dayana Yastremska wrapped up their performances in the earlier stages. Thus, Elina Svitolina, who previously successfully overcame the barrier of one of the preceding rounds, remains the sole representative of Ukraine continuing the fight in the singles competition.
