Since the beginning of 2026, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has demonstrated unprecedented rates of supplying the Ukrainian army with domestically produced equipment. According to official data from the agency, over the past period, 1,678 new models of weapons and military equipment (WME) were approved for operation in the Defense Forces. At the same time, a colossal share of them—exactly 1,530 units—were manufactured directly at Ukrainian enterprises, accounting for over 90% of the total volume of new products.

Dynamics and Scale of Import Substitution

The pace of codification of domestic weapons and military equipment has increased enormously in recent years against the backdrop of the ongoing armed conflict. For a clear comparison of scale: in 2022, only 60 Ukrainian models were approved for operation, whereas in the current year of 2026, this figure reached 1,530 units. Thus, the quantitative leap amounted to an impressive 25.5 times, emphasizing the systematic reorientation of the defense-industrial complex toward domestic capacities.

Growth in the Share of Domestic WME

Experts and representatives of the defense department note a qualitative leap in meeting the needs of the frontline. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the overall indicator of the share of Ukrainian developments and serial production in the supply structure for the active army has increased by 67.3%. This allows not only to reduce logistical dependence on foreign partners, but also to promptly modernize equipment to meet the current realities of combat operations.

Innovations and Prospects of the Defense Cluster

In parallel with the mass production of proven weapons, innovative areas are actively developing in Ukraine. In particular, within the framework of the Brave1 defense cluster, a special grant competition was announced for the development of advanced humanoid robots for the needs of the defense forces. It is expected that the introduction of such combat robots will minimize the risks to the lives of Ukrainian servicemen during complex combat missions and frontline rotations.
