On November 19, SWEET.TV will host the premiere of Destination X, the Ukrainian adaptation of the international adventure reality show, winner of Rose d'Or and C21 Awards, which has previously been adapted in various countries around the world. In the new season, ten contestants will embark on a mysterious route across Ukraine: they will have to complete tasks, collect clues, and try to guess Point X—the exact location where they are. According to the SWEET.TV press service reviewed by Styler, the project is conceived not only as a game, but also as a way to show viewers different corners of the country and remind them that Ukraine is "bigger than we imagine."
The Two-Story X-Bus and the Mechanics of Uncertainty
At the center of the show is an innovative two-story X-Bus with tinted windows: the contestants cannot see the route and do not know where they actually are, while every stop becomes part of the game and the surrounding world a potential source of clues. A significant portion of the interaction between players unfolds right inside the bus: they discuss versions, share observations, argue, and try to convince each other of their conclusions. Some immediately take on a leadership role, others prefer to gather information first, and some seek allies—and these behavioral patterns become part of the spectacle.
Ukraine as Part of the Riddle
Traveling across the country in Destination X works on two levels. On the one hand, cities, architecture, landscapes, and unexpected locations become more than just a background for adventures; they are an element of the puzzle, as details of the landscape, architecture, or urban environment can help get closer to the answer, turning geography into a component of the game. On the other hand, some places will look familiar to viewers, while others will be a discovery that makes them want to see them live. Promo stills of the project released by Styler show the contestants on a mountain route holding a map, emphasizing the adventurous, "field" nature of the show.
Contestants and Reality Elements
The show brings together people with different backgrounds, temperaments, and mindsets. Among the participants are Michelle Andrade, Olena Topolia, OSTROVSKYI, BRYKULETS, actor Karen Vardanyan, and others. For each of them, the journey becomes a test not only of logic and attentiveness, but also of the ability to interact with others under conditions of limited information. The reality aspect is not limited to reactions to tasks: viewers watch how participants behave in situations of uncertainty, defend their decisions, and change tactics when circumstances turn against them. The elimination mechanics raise the stakes of the game—contestants compete not only for the correct answer, but also for the opportunity to continue their journey.
Technology and Viewer Engagement
Innovative solutions in Destination X affect not only the visual picture, but directly the mechanics of the game. The tinted windows of the X-Bus and special X-glasses make spatial orientation more difficult, forcing players to work more carefully with clues and observations. Personal sympathies, arguments, and alliances influence the course of the game and add unpredictability, while viewers get an additional level of engagement: they can put forward their own versions, pay attention to details alongside the contestants, and test their assumptions. Thus, space, riddles, and human behavior come together into a cohesive story where a mistake can cost a place in the game, and every choice matters.
