The Ukrainian diplomatic service is on the verge of major changes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has personally initiated a "reboot" of the country's foreign missions, tasking them with becoming maximally effective tools of foreign policy.
Personal Oversight of the Reform
According to RBC-Ukraine, citing the head of state, the details of the reform will be discussed as early as tomorrow. The meeting will take place in a small circle: Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to discuss the strategy with the Head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, and a team of professional diplomats.
"Tomorrow we will be talking with Kyrylo Budanov and our diplomatic team about rebooting Ukrainian foreign missions," the publication quotes the President.
The key message from the head of state is unambiguous: Ukrainian embassies must not just be representative offices, but highly efficient structures capable of solving complex tasks in current geopolitical conditions.
Context of Large-Scale Personnel Changes
The announcement of the diplomatic reform comes against the backdrop of a large-scale restructuring of the executive branch in the country. On Sunday, October 20, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to update the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers. This decision became a logical continuation of political processes that began earlier this week.
Events developed rapidly:
- The President offered Yulia Sviridenko a new position, signaling a change of Prime Minister.
- By Tuesday, the Verkhovna Rada supported the resignation of the acting Prime Minister.
- The resignation of the head of government automatically led to the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
New Government Vector
After the resignation of the old administration, the name of the new Prime Minister became known almost instantly. Information that the post would be taken by Serhiy Koretskyi was first reported by RBC-Ukraine citing sources. The next day, the President officially confirmed the candidacy.
In his first speech, the new Prime Minister outlined the priorities of the updated government. The main task is named as fully meeting the needs of Ukraine's defense forces, as well as expanding the capabilities of the domestic defense industry (military-industrial complex).
Thus, the country is moving to a new phase of governance, where diplomatic reform goes hand in hand with the renewal of a government focused on defense and economic issues.
