The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has fixed the new official exchange rates for Friday, July 31. The market is showing divergent trends: the American currency continues to decline, while the European currency demonstrates growth.
Dollar drops for the second day in a row
The official exchange rate of the US dollar on July 31 is set at 44.69 hryvnias. This is 18 kopecks less than on Thursday, July 30, when the cost of the "greenback" was 44.87 UAH. Thus, the regulator is lowering the price of the American currency for the second consecutive day.
Euro gains momentum
At the same time, the official exchange rate of the euro is rising for the second day in a row after a brief pause. On July 31, the European currency is valued at 51.27 hryvnias, which is 19 kopecks higher than Thursday's figure (51.08 UAH).
Impact of tariffs on inflation
The regulator's attention is focused not only on exchange rates but also on domestic inflation dynamics. Deputy Head of the National Bank, Volodymyr Lepushynskyi, warned about the consequences of tariff increases during a briefing on the announcement of the updated rate.
According to him, the increase in the cost of public transport and cold water supply services in 2026 will add about 0.5 percentage points to the overall inflation.
Context: increase in the refinancing rate
These changes are taking place against the backdrop of a tightening of monetary policy. Recall that on Thursday, the NBU Board decided to raise the refinancing rate to 15.5% per annum.
