Currency Stabilization: Dollar and Euro Rates Decline
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) updated the official exchange rates for Friday, August 14, 2026. The US dollar dropped by 2 kopecks and now stands at 44.69 hryvnias per dollar. The euro also decreased — by 6 kopecks — settling at 51.55 hryvnias per euro. This marks the second consecutive day that both major foreign currencies have shown a decline against Ukraine's national currency.
Such dynamics may indicate a gradual stabilization of the currency market following recent changes in regulatory policy. Experts note that the decline in the dollar and euro rates could be linked to improved macroeconomic indicators, as well as NBU actions to support the hryvnia.
New Limits on Currency Purchases: Impact on the Market
Since August 11, 2026, the NBU has increased the limit for purchasing non-cash currency for individuals from 50,000 to 200,000 hryvnias per month. This decision was made as part of the easing of currency restrictions that have been in place in the country for several years. However, according to financial analysts, the real impact of this change on the market may be limited.
Financial analyst Andriy Shevchyshyn, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, noted that most citizens will not be able to take advantage of the new limit due to requirements for official income verification. "It currently looks like the impact will be quite limited. Few people have a transaction limit and officially confirmed income of 200,000 UAH. For the majority, a 50,000 UAH limit will simply apply at the financial monitoring level," the expert emphasized.
Contradictory Data
While some experts predict a surge in demand for currency following the easing of restrictions, others remain skeptical. For example, the source finmarket.ru notes that the dollar is weakening against the euro but remains stable against the pound and the yen. This may indicate that changes in exchange rates are linked not only to internal factors but also to global market processes.
At the same time, an RBC-Ukraine article from July 8, 2026 (Source ID 2) mentions that the euro is rising, which contradicts the current trend of the euro rate decline on August 14. This could be due to temporary market fluctuations or differences in how different analysts interpret the data.
Outlook for the Hryvnia Rate
Experts cautiously assess the prospects for the future movement of the hryvnia rate. On one hand, easing currency restrictions could lead to increased demand for foreign currency, putting pressure on the hryvnia rate. On the other hand, NBU actions to support the national currency and improved macroeconomic indicators could contribute to its stabilization.
It is important to note that the current situation in the currency market remains largely dependent on external factors, including the geopolitical situation and the dynamics of global markets. Therefore, forecasts regarding the future rate of the hryvnia remain cautious.
