The first half was played with the hosts in command, although the visitors also tried to strike back with dangerous counter-attacks. The breakthrough came in the 42nd minute: Mykola Shevchenko delivered a precise pass to Andriy Yarmolenko, and the 36-year-old Kyiv captain opened the scoring with a powerful shot from a sharp angle under the crossbar. This goal was Yarmolenko's 124th in Ukrainian championships. Thanks to this result, the Dynamo winger equalled the historic UPL scoring record, matching the tally of the former striker of the capital club, Maksym Shatskikh.

Right after the break, in the 49th minute, the "blues and whites" doubled their lead. Justin Lonwijk finished a one-touch finish from Oleksiy Sycha's cross from the right flank.
