An unusual gift to himself: how Elton John turned bones into art

In the wardrobe of the legendary musician Elton John, there has always been room for the most extravagant jewelry. However, one of the artist's latest acquisitions has not only aesthetic but also deeply personal value. After undergoing surgery to replace both knee joints in 2024, John kept the removed kneecaps and turned them into unique jewelry pieces. This decision became not just a nod to fashion, but a symbol of overcoming and accepting one's own body.

The idea to create jewelry from his own bones arose in the artist immediately after the operation. The surgeon first removed the left kneecap, and then the right. John asked to keep the bones, which surprised the medical staff. He then approached British jewelry designer Theo Fennell with an unusual proposal: to use this material to create exclusive accessories.

The creation process: from bones to masterpieces

The designer Theo Fennell's team approached the task with maximum responsibility. The bones were specially treated: they were dried, made porous, then coated with a special layer and polished. From one kneecap, a pendant with a gold coating was created, complemented by a chain, the elements of which also resemble bones. On the reverse side, the phrase in Latin was engraved: "I will no longer bow to any man." According to Fennell, this inscription is particularly symbolic, as it concerns a part of the body that literally allows a person to kneel.

Symbolism and humor: how Elton John relates to his jewelry

John is not only proud of his new jewelry but also relates to their origin with humor. He noted that the surgeon called his knees the worst he had ever operated on, and the artist compared the damage on the kneecap to an ancient Egyptian artifact. The second kneecap turned out to be smaller, so a brooch was made from it. The musician proudly emphasized that both pieces of jewelry are timeless and can be preserved for centuries.

Contradictory data

Some sources mention that Elton John also plans to create other jewelry from his biological materials, including vials of blood. However, this information has not yet been confirmed by the artist himself and remains at the rumor stage. At the same time, the fact of creating a necklace and brooch from kneecaps has been confirmed by both John and designer Theo Fennell.

The significance of the project for Elton John's legacy

This project not only demonstrates the artist's creative approach to his body and health but also becomes part of his legacy. John views these jewelry pieces as a way to literally pass on a piece of himself to his loved ones. In an interview, he noted that this is just the beginning, and in the future, he plans to create even more unique accessories that will have deep personal significance.
