Five Russian attacks on Ukraine's railway: passenger killed in drone strike on electric train in Kharkiv region

Nikolai Kalashnyk, Ukraine's Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport, reported five Russian attacks on the country's railway infrastructure, in which one person was killed and four others were injured. RBC-Ukraine reports this based on the minister's statement. According to his data, since the beginning of 2026 Russia has attacked Ukraine's railway for the 1534th time, indicating the systematic nature of strikes on civilian and transport infrastructure.

Strike on an electric train in Kharkiv region

At Lymanska station in Kharkiv region, a Russian drone hit a passenger electric train on the Lozova — Kharkiv route. Due to the threat of a UAV strike, the train was stopped in advance and the evacuation of people began. Most passengers, together with the train crew, managed to move to a safe distance from the railway infrastructure, but some people remained near the rolling stock. A passenger was killed in this strike, and four others were injured.

Second attack and rescue workers' efforts

After the first hit, the Russians attacked the electric train again while rescue workers were already on site. According to the minister, no one was injured during the second strike. The incident once again confirms the risk of repeated attacks on sites where emergency services are already deployed, and underscores the danger of staying near a struck train.

Incident in Odesa region

In Odesa region, an enemy "Shahed" loitering munition hit the locomotive of a passenger train. The train was also stopped in advance, allowing railway workers to evacuate 593 passengers, including 15 children; no one was injured. After the first hit, the enemy struck the locomotive a second time. All passengers were safely delivered to Odesa by bus.

Systematic strikes and railway workers' appeal

As the publication notes, recently a worker was killed in an enemy ballistic missile attack on a railway enterprise in Kyiv, and a station in Odesa region was hit by an enemy strike. In addition, targeted strikes on rolling stock have been recorded: earlier in Odesa region a drone hit a passenger train carrying 340 people, resulting in casualties. Railway workers urge people to strictly follow the instructions of the crew during evacuation and under no circumstances to remain near the rolling stock due to the risk of repeated attacks.
