Choosing a supermarket for basic groceries can significantly impact a family budget. The Styler project (RBC-Ukraine) conducted a comparative analysis of prices in online catalogs of four major retail chains in Ukraine — ATB, Silpo, Novus, and Auchan — as of November 5, 2026. The sample included five everyday product categories: bread, buckwheat, chicken eggs, milk, and sunflower oil. For each category, the most affordable offers were selected, taking into account packaging and current promotional discounts. Prices are quoted excluding delivery costs and personal bonus programs; products may differ by manufacturer and specifications.

Bread: price spread reaches 15.21 UAH per package

When comparing bakery products, analysts took into account the cost of the finished package, rather than the price per 100 grams of pastry. The sample included rye bread, loaf, toast bread, and yeast-free bread. The most affordable was "Dobryi" rye bread (traditional, sliced, 300 g) at the Silpo chain — 15.59 UAH. Followed by: Marka Promo loaf (225 g) at Novus — 19.08 UAH; "Krystynopil Khlib" toast bread (300 g) at ATB — 24.80 UAH; "Formula Smaku" yeast-free sliced bread (300 g) at Auchan — 30.80 UAH. The difference between the cheapest and most expensive offer was 15.21 UAH per package.

Buckwheat and eggs: maximum difference for grains — 43.71 UAH per kilogram

For buckwheat, the comparison was based on one kilogram. At Silpo, "Premiia" kernel (quick-cooking, 1 kg) cost 54.99 UAH on promotion at a regular price of 64.99 UAH. The total difference in buckwheat prices between retail chains reached 43.71 UAH per kilogram — this is the largest gap among all five categories. For chicken eggs (ten count, first and second category), Novus became the accessibility leader: Marka Promo first category eggs — 58.99 UAH. At Auchan, Auchan first category eggs cost 62.90 UAH, at Silpo — "Sytiy Dvir" second category — 62.99 UAH, and at ATB — "Kvochka" first category on promotion — 68.90 UAH. The difference between chains for eggs was 9.91 UAH per ten.

Milk and sunflower oil: promotional prices reduce the gap

In the milk category, both compared chains offered the "Yahotynske" product. At Auchan, the promotional price was 44.90 UAH (regular — 67.40 UAH), at Novus — 46.99 UAH (regular — 61.99 UAH). The difference between the chains is 7.09 UAH per package. Regarding sunflower oil (refined, 500 ml), the Novus "Shchedryi Dar" offer at a price of 64.62 UAH was included in the sample; the total difference between retail chains for this category was 16.59 UAH per bottle.

No single chain wins in all categories

The key conclusion of the study: the lowest prices for basic products are not concentrated in one retail chain. Silpo offers the most affordable packaged bread and buckwheat, Novus wins for eggs and sunflower oil, Auchan — for milk. ATB in this comparison did not take a leading position in any of the five categories. The study authors recommend checking prices in online catalogs before purchasing, as they may differ depending on the city, specific store, and order date.

Context: inflationary pressure and price dynamics in November 2026

The comparison of prices in supermarkets takes place against the background of general inflationary pressure. The National Bank of Ukraine has downgraded its 2026 inflation forecast: according to a new estimate, consumer prices will rise by 12.5% by the end of December. NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy explained the forecast revision by the consequences of shelling, rising fuel prices, and increased budget expenditures. At the same time, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy monitoring, some products became cheaper in early November 2026: chicken eggs became 27% cheaper than a year earlier, pork lost 11%, butter — 6%. Thus, even in conditions of general inflation, targeted discounts and promotional offers in specific chains allow the consumer to significantly save on daily purchases.
