Google has officially announced the cancellation of the project to create a separate mobile AI Studio app for Android and iOS platforms. This decision was made just a few months after the high-profile announcement of the service, which was intended to be a revolutionary tool for developers.
The official statement regarding the strategic shift appeared on the Google AI Studio account on the social network X. RBC-Ukraine correspondents confirmed the cancellation of the native app launch.
User demand versus company strategy
Interest in the new product was indeed high. The app, announced in May of this year, managed to gather around 800,000 pre-orders on the App Store and Google Play. Users expected the ability to create, test, and publish AI programs directly from their smartphones.
However, the company decided not to force users to install yet another separate app. Instead, Google chose a fundamentally different path for ecosystem development. In a message to developers, the company thanked those who showed interest in creating software "on the go".
New approach: integration instead of isolation
Google developers concluded that full integration of AI Studio features into existing tools would open up far more possibilities than a separate, isolated product.
Some AI workflows are already available via Gemini Canvas and web apps. However, in the future, the key will be the native Gemini mobile app. This is particularly relevant for the Android operating system, where deep interaction with system notifications and internal device resources will allow users to create personal programs in seconds.
Future of the platform
It is important to note that abandoning the mobile app does not mean abandoning the tool itself. The Google team continues to actively invest in the development of the web version of AI Studio.
The service will remain available to all users who want to go through the full journey from idea and text prompt to creating their own business. Thus, Google is changing tactics, betting on web technologies and deep OS integration rather than app fragmentation.
