In the state of Texas, on vast green fields, a unique social project has emerged that has quickly become known far beyond the United States. A retiree named Robin Erian realized her dream by building a village called "Bird's Nest". This settlement, consisting of cozy tiny houses, has a strict rule: only single women live here. The initiative, reported by The Sun, represents a response to the growing need for safe and affordable housing for older women.

The philosophy of independence and safety

The main idea of the project goes beyond simply providing a roof over one's head. Robin Erian aims to create an environment where women can achieve financial independence and a sense of belonging to a close-knit community. In "Bird's Nest," residents support each other, creating an atmosphere of trust and safety that is often lacking in ordinary society. Rent for the small houses here starts at $450 a month, making living here affordable for many seeking stability in their later years.

Investing in the future: from pension savings to infrastructure

Implementing such a large-scale project required significant personal investment. Erian used her pension savings to purchase a 5-acre plot of land for $35,000. However, buying the land was just the first step. Another $150,000 was allocated for critical infrastructure: laying sewage, installing electricity and water supply, as well as building roads and landscaping the area. Today, the settlement is a fully-fledged residential complex with modern amenities.

Strict selection and high demand

Currently, 12 women aged 52 and older live in the village. Most of them are divorced, widowed, or never-married women looking for a new beginning. Interest in the project was so high that last summer, about 500 applications were received for a single available spot. Consequently, the organizers were forced to tighten the selection criteria. Now, each candidate must personally meet with the founder and current residents to ensure compatibility and readiness to become part of this unique community.
