India Demands Explanations from Ukraine After Death of Indian Sailor on MV OMORFI

The Ukrainian Ambassador to India, Oleksandr Polischuk, was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The reason for this diplomatic step was the attack on the merchant vessel MV OMORFI, which resulted in the death of an Indian citizen. New Delhi officially expressed its serious concern to Ukraine and strongly condemned the attack.

Diplomatic Pressure and New Delhi's Stance

According to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, the incident involving the MV OMORFI, which occurred on July 18 in the Black Sea, has caused a significant reaction at the highest levels. Indian diplomats emphasized that such actions pose a direct threat to the safety of maritime navigation, freedom of navigation, and the stability of international trade.

During the meeting, the Indian side clearly stated its position: attacks on merchant vessels that endanger the lives of civilian sailors are unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. The Ukrainian Ambassador was instructed to convey this official position to the authorities in Kyiv.

Details of the Tragedy Aboard

According to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, the attack on the MV OMORFI took place in Russian territorial waters. There were ten crew members on board the vessel, including three Indian citizens. As a result of the incident, one Indian sailor died, while two others reportedly remained unharmed, according to New Delhi.

This incident is the latest in a series of tragic events in the Black Sea. Just a week earlier, on July 19, Russian forces attacked another merchant vessel, the Golden Leo, departing from the port of Odesa. In that incident, ten people were killed, including four Indian citizens, and another Indian suffered severe injuries.

The recurrence of such attacks is causing alarm within the international community. As a major maritime power, India insists on protecting the rights of its citizens and the safety of trade routes. New Delhi's diplomatic response demonstrates the country's serious intentions regarding the protection of its interests and adherence to international maritime law.
