The Government of Japan has sent another tranche of financial assistance worth $51.5 million to the state budget of Ukraine. These funds are designated for comprehensive support and modernization of the national healthcare system amid ongoing systemic challenges.
Target Purpose of Funds and the THRIVE Project
As announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi on his Telegram channel, the allocated amount arrived within the framework of a large-scale World Bank partnership project named THRIVE (Transforming Healthcare through Reform and Investments in Efficiency). This initiative fully reflects the strategy of its implementation aimed at optimizing state medical expenditures.
The main objective of the project is to increase the efficiency of public spending on medicine. The received funds will be channeled toward improving the financing of services under the Medical Guarantees Program and strengthening the institutional capacity of the National Health Service of Ukraine.
Scale of International Support
The Prime Minister emphasized that the total volume of the THRIVE program amounts to $1.2 billion USD. To date, the Ukrainian side has successfully accumulated $449 million from the overall planned financial support package.
The country's leadership expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Japan and World Bank institutions for their consistent and reliable support of Ukraine's financial stability. These new injections allow not only covering current budgetary needs of the healthcare sector but also systematically reforming the industry in the long term.
