Kharkiv's municipal infrastructure is fully prepared for the launch of the new 2026/2027 heating season. This was stated by Kharkiv City Council Head Igor Terekhov on October 21 while speaking to journalists. According to him, all necessary work to prepare networks and boiler houses has been completed, but the actual supply of heat to residential buildings will not begin according to a formal calendar, but strictly based on weather indicators established in regulatory documents.

Preparedness of Networks and Boiler Houses

The press service of the Kharkiv City Council, citing the mayor's statement, confirmed that the city's municipal services are ready for the start of the heating season. This means that boiler houses, heating networks, and internal building systems have undergone the necessary inspections and are in working order. Terekhov emphasized that the technical part of the preparation is complete, and the city will not depend on disruptions or delays at the launch stage.

When Exactly the Radiators Will Be Turned On

A key caveat made by the mayor concerns the trigger for the actual activation of heat. "We will begin the heating season when weather conditions comply with regulatory documents," Terekhov stated. In Ukrainian legislation, the launch of heating is tied to average daily temperatures: as a rule, this refers to a five-day period during which the average daily air temperature drops below eight degrees. While such values have not been recorded in Kharkiv yet, there is no formal grounds for supplying heat.

Social Facilities Are a Priority

Igor Terekhov separately noted that hospitals and other social sector institutions are 100% ready for heat connection. This means that even in the event of an early cold snap, these specific facilities will be able to receive heat first, without waiting for the citywide launch. For medical institutions, where a stable temperature regime is critically important, such readiness is a mandatory condition for operation during the autumn-winter period.

Weather Context: No Cold Snap Expected Yet

According to the forecast from the Hydrometeorological Center of Kharkiv and Luhansk Oblasts, cloudy weather with sunny intervals is expected in the region on October 22. Variable cloudiness will persist from October 23 to 26, with forecasters not predicting significant precipitation. A gradual decrease in temperature indicators at night and during the day is possible, but frosts or a significant cold snap are not being discussed for the coming week. Thus, there is no formal reason for the emergency activation of heating in Kharkiv in the coming days.

Context: Heating Season in Other Cities

Recall that in Kyiv, the supply of heat to residential buildings has already begun. In a number of other Ukrainian cities, the heating season has also been launched or is at the preparation stage. The difference in activation dates is explained by local weather conditions: in each city, the decision is made based on actual temperature indicators rather than a single nationwide order. Residents of Kharkiv awaiting the activation of radiators should monitor forecast updates and official statements from the city council—with a steady drop in temperature below the regulatory threshold, heat supply can begin at any moment.
