On the night and morning of September 23, 2026, Russia launched a massive strike on the capital of Ukraine using unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, at least two people were killed in the attack, and the number of injured, according to the latest operational reports, reached 43. Fires and damage were recorded in several districts of the city, including at transport infrastructure facilities, gas stations, and residential and commercial buildings.

Course of the attack and scale of damage

Kateryna Pop, a representative of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that approximately 30 facilities were damaged in the capital following the Russian attack, including 15 vehicles. The most severe damage was recorded in the Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, and Pecherskyi districts. According to the KMA, all fires had been contained as of the latest report, while debris clearance and the elimination of the strike's aftermath continue at the damaged sites.

Injured and medical assistance

As of 16:25 on September 23, according to a KMA message on Telegram, 41 people were reported injured as a result of the "enemy strikes on the capital today." Later, Kateryna Pop clarified the figure: the number of injured stood at 43, of whom 17 were taken to medical facilities in the capital, and three are in critical condition. At least two fatalities have been officially confirmed.

Contradictory data

A discrepancy in the number of injured has been noted in the operational reports: the KMA message at 16:25 cites 41 injured, while Kateryna Pop's subsequent comment gives the figure as 43. The difference is explained by the dynamic updating of data during debris clearance and hospitalization; however, until the official final report is issued, both figures are cited in open sources. In addition, a number of publications (including materials dated September 22) describe separate incidents, such as a hit on fuel tanks on Obolon, which relate to a different episode and should not be conflated with the results of the September 23 strike.

Consequences by district

In the Solomianskyi district, UAV debris fell between buildings, the territory of a transport enterprise caught fire, a drone was recorded falling on a store, and a hit on a nine-story unoccupied building was noted. In the Holosiivskyi district, warehouse premises, a gas station, a business center, and transport infrastructure facilities were damaged. In the Darnytskyi district, a hit on a transport infrastructure facility and a fire at a gas station were recorded. The Pecherskyi district also ranked among the most affected, although the details of the damage there are given less thoroughly in the operational reports.

Elimination of the aftermath

According to the KMA, all fires that arose as a result of the attack have been contained. Emergency and utility services are working at the damaged sites: debris is being cleared, damage to infrastructure is being assessed, and assistance is being provided to the injured. The official final report on the number of casualties and the scale of destruction is expected after the debris clearance is completed and the injured are interviewed at medical facilities.
