On the night of 27 August 2026, as a result of a massive attack by Russian forces on Ukraine's infrastructure, a warehouse belonging to the «Kolo» retail chain — which is now part of the Varus company — was damaged. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement published on Facebook by Varus's press service. The incident was part of a broader wave of strikes on logistics facilities and cities across several regions of the country.
Course of the attack and the condition of the facility
According to the press service, no employees of the warehouse were injured at the time of the shelling — the company called this the main and most important outcome. Nevertheless, the facility itself sustained damage: in the photos accompanying reports on the aftermath of the attack, deformed metal structures of the warehouse's roof and walls are visible, characteristic of damage caused by explosive ordnance. Varus emphasized that an assessment of the damage is currently being carried out jointly with the relevant authorities.
Varus's response and the operating status of the «Kolo» chain
"We are currently working together to assess the damage and are doing everything possible to ensure that this situation has a minimal impact on our customers," the company's press service stated. Varus also warned of possible temporary delays in the delivery of certain product lines, attributing this to the aftermath of the attack, and said it is seeking alternative solutions to compensate for disruptions in logistics. Meanwhile, the «Kolo» retail chain itself continues to operate in normal mode: all stores are open and serving customers.
Wider context: strikes on logistics and cities
The damage to the «Kolo» warehouse is just one episode of the night attack. As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, on the morning of 27 August a warehouse of the ROSHEN company in the settlement of Chubynske, Kyiv Oblast, was completely destroyed. In addition, overnight, the distribution centers of the «Forsa», «Toy Store» (Domy Ihruшок) and Comfy retail chains were damaged and destroyed. At the same time, major Ukrainian cities — Odesa, Kyiv, Kharkiv, as well as Poltava Oblast and other regions — were under attack, indicating a deliberate targeting of infrastructure and populated areas.
What this means for consumers
For shoppers, the practical consequence of the attack may manifest as short-term shortages of certain items on the shelves and delivery delays, since distribution chains have been temporarily disrupted. Operating companies, including Varus, state that they are switching to alternative logistics schemes, however, the exact timeline for restoring the normal rhythm of deliveries has not been specified as of the time of publication. Retail chains are maintaining store operations, which allows them to avoid a complete interruption of access to goods.
