Events of the last few nights have once again confirmed that the war in Ukraine has no borders and directly affects the security of all of Europe. The massive missile strike by Russia on Kyiv, which occurred on the night of July 19, triggered an immediate and sharp reaction in Warsaw. Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz used this incident to publicly criticize politicians calling for a reduction in support for Kyiv.
Strike on Kyiv as an argument against 'fatigue' with aid
On the night of July 19, the Russian Armed Forces launched one of the most powerful strikes since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. According to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the capital was subjected to a large-scale attack by ballistic and cruise missiles. It was precisely this fact that became the trigger for the Polish minister's statement.
In his post on the social network X, Kosiniak-Kamysz directly pointed out the fallacy of those calling for weakening aid to Ukraine. In his opinion, Moscow's aggressive actions and reports of preparations for a new large-scale mobilization in Russia are not just a threat to neighbors, but proof that calls to reduce support are 'detached from reality'.
"Russia launched the most powerful attack with ballistic and cruise missiles on Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion and announced preparations for a large-scale military mobilization. This demonstrates how detached from reality are the voices calling for weakening support for Ukraine or hindering the modernization of the Polish army," the minister stated.
Issues of domestic politics and security
The statement from Warsaw came against the backdrop of an ongoing domestic political discussion in Poland regarding the volume of aid to Kyiv. The topic has sparked sharp disputes between the government and the opposition. Earlier, in early July, Kosiniak-Kamysz had already faced sharp criticism from Polish President Karol Nawrocki while defending the decision to transfer missiles for the Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
In his new address, the Defence Minister emphasized the strategic importance of the Ukrainian front for the security of Poland itself. He stated that Warsaw will do everything possible to ensure that Russian missiles never reach Polish territory.
"That is why we are doing everything possible so that Russian missiles never reach Poland, and our security is never threatened. We will not yield!" added Kosiniak-Kamysz, underlining the firmness of the country's position.
