The head of the Office of the Prosecutor General, Ruslan Kravchenko, publicly denied his involvement in shielding fraudulent call centers and laundering assets obtained from their operations. According to RBC-Ukraine, he wrote this in the official Telegram channel of the Prosecutor General, responding to the anti-corruption agencies' revelations under the special operation 'Carthage.' In his words, the claims by the NABU and the SAP that he received funds from illegal call centers and laundered them 'have no basis whatsoever.'

'The photo of the safe is just a photo of a safe'

Commenting on one of the most resonant artifacts of the case, Kravchenko stated: 'Talks are just talks, just as the photo of the safe with money is only a photo of a safe with money, which has nothing to do with either me or the prosecution, and is only, according to the defense lawyers, a photo from another criminal case.' Thus, the defense insists that the image of the safe with cash was seized within the framework of a separate case and is not connected to either the official himself or the activities of the prosecution.

Comments on the 'household' episodes

Separately, Kravchenko commented on the episodes captured on the recordings that became suspicious for the investigation: his and his wife's travels, the purchase of a laptop, and renovation work in Kozyn, where many officials' private houses are concentrated. 'My travels and my family's household matters — any expenses were carried out exclusively within the limits of the current legislation and my declared income, with no violations whatsoever,' he emphasized. Regarding the visa and the equipment, he added: 'On obtaining a US visa and buying a laptop: my wife prepared the documents and obtained the visa on her own, and she does not have a new laptop!' As for the house in Kozyn, the head of the Office of the Prosecutor General claims that the residence has been rented since May 2026, and before that, from the winter period, renovation work was being carried out there. 'My permanent place of residence will be declared in accordance with the law,' he promised.

What the investigation established

Recently, the NABU and the SAP disclosed details of the 'Carthage' operation, concerning the shielding of illegal call centers and the laundering of assets from their operations. The deputy head of the international cooperation department of the Office of the Prosecutor General, Serhiy Kropyva, came under suspicion, with the investigation considering him the curator of the call centers. The SAP prosecutor told the court that detectives recorded a conversation between the Prosecutor General and Kropyva on March 4, 2026: from the conversation it follows that he 'was under the protection of the Prosecutor General,' which, according to the investigation, explains his 'extensive authoritative powers.' The recordings also show that Kropyva organized renovations in the house in Kozyn, including the installation of a gas generator, and shortly before Kravchenko's business trip to Spain, he arranged flights there for his wife and companion and planned to celebrate the Prosecutor General's birthday, which is marked on March 14, in Madrid. The court selected a preventive measure for Kropyva in the form of detention until November 2026, with the right to post bail of 120 million hryvnias.

Contradictory data

The versions of the parties in the case differ substantially. The anti-corruption agencies and the SAP prosecutor present recordings from which, they claim, it follows that Kropyva acted 'under the protection' of the Prosecutor General and coordinated the household and financial matters of the Kravchenko family, including renovations in Kozyn and trips to Spain. Kravchenko himself rejects these conclusions: he calls the recordings 'just talks,' states that the photo of the safe with money belongs to another criminal case, denies the purchase of a laptop by his wife, and explains the house in Kozyn as a legal rental since May 2026. As of publication, Kravchenko's guilt in the charged acts has not been established, and his statements and the investigation's conclusions remain competing versions that will be examined in court.
