Large-scale negotiations are underway in Moscow to save the economy of one of Russia's largest marketplaces. Following a series of Ukrainian drone strikes on Wildberries' logistics centers, Russian authorities are urgently discussing a package of financial aid for affected sellers. The damage to the company's infrastructure is estimated in billions of dollars, threatening the existence of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses dependent on the platform.

Scale of losses and threat of bankruptcies

According to Forbes, losses for Wildberries sellers following attacks by Ukrainian UAVs have already reached $3.5 billion. Strikes on warehouses, including a major hub in Krasny Bor, led to massive fires and the destruction of huge volumes of inventory. For many entrepreneurs, this has become a fatal blow capable of triggering a wave of bankruptcies.

Wildberries, often called the "Russian Amazon," has ceased to be just a trading platform. For the Russian economy, it is a critically important part of the logistics infrastructure, so stabilizing the situation around the company has become a priority for the Kremlin.

Emergency support plan from the authorities

According to Bloomberg, citing an informed source, Russian authorities are considering a comprehensive set of measures to save the business. Key elements of the proposed aid package include:

  • Credit holidays: Affected sellers may be granted a deferral of loan payments for up to one year.
  • Debt restructuring: Banks will be offered permission to restructure debts without the need to form additional reserves, simplifying the procedure for writing off or revising obligations.
  • Alternative warehouses: The possibility of providing access to warehouse facilities operated by the state-owned Russian Post and other logistics centers is being discussed.
  • Storage abroad: As an additional option, the possibility of storing goods in warehouses outside Russia is being considered to minimize the risk of repeated strikes.

A decision on which specific measures will ultimately be implemented has not yet been made. However, the very fact of discussing such large-scale measures indicates the seriousness of the situation.

Why the Kremlin is saving Wildberries at all costs

Experts, in particular analyst Kopyt'ko, note that supporting Wildberries is not just about helping a private company, but an attempt to maintain the functionality of the country's systemic infrastructure. The company provides employment for a huge number of people and is a key link in the supply chain of goods for the population.

Earlier, the Commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Madyar, confirmed the strike on the logistics hub in Krasny Bor. This strike became a catalyst for the adoption of emergency measures by Russian authorities, who understand that without support for sellers, the marketplace's economy could collapse, leading to serious socio-economic consequences.
