Tragedy in Kyiv: Death toll from the August 5 shelling rises to two, key logistics hubs damaged

The situation in Kyiv and the Kyiv region remains tense two days after a massive attack by Russian forces. On August 7, tragic developments were reported in the capital's hospitals: a 55-year-old man, who sustained severe injuries during the shelling that occurred on the night of August 5, passed away. Thus, the confirmed death toll in the capital as a result of this attack has reached two people, while the number of injured stands at 26.

Scale of destruction and infrastructure losses

The night attack launched by Russian forces on the night of August 5 was one of the largest in recent times. According to Ukrainian air defense forces, the enemy used 28 missiles and 115 unmanned aerial vehicles. Despite the active work of air defense systems, it was not possible to intercept all ballistic missiles, leading to serious destruction in the Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Desnyanskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts of Kyiv.

Experts are particularly concerned about the damage inflicted on critical civilian infrastructure and logistics objects. As a result of the strikes, large retail and logistics centers were damaged. Damage to facilities belonging to the companies "Epicentr", "ROZETKA", and "Nova Poshta" has been confirmed. The destruction of logistics chains on such a large scale could have a long-term impact on the supply of the capital and surrounding regions.

Environmental threat and fires

In addition to physical destruction, the attack triggered a number of man-made incidents. In the Holosiivskyi district, where the strike hit warehouse facilities, an ammonia leak occurred. The situation was promptly brought under control by the relevant services; however, the incident highlights the risks associated with the placement of industrial facilities near residential areas. Large-scale fires broke out in the warehouses, the extinguishing of which took considerable time and required the involvement of additional Emergency Services forces.

Situation in the Kyiv region

The consequences of the strike are not limited to the administrative boundaries of the capital. In the Kyiv region, which bore the brunt of the attack, the situation remains critical. According to the latest data, at least 17 people were killed in the region, and another 36 were injured with varying degrees of severity. Deceased individuals were found near the attacked logistics centers on the territory of a railway platform, indicating the high accuracy and destructive power of the munitions used.

At present, there are discrepancies in official reports regarding the exact number of casualties and the nature of the damage. While the capital authorities report two deaths in Kyiv, the data for the region varies.
