The Kyiv City State Administration (KCCA) has announced the introduction of partial traffic restrictions in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital. The changes for drivers in the city center will be in effect for two weeks, according to RBC-Ukraine, citing a post by the KCCA press service. The decision was made based on information from the municipal corporation "Kyivavtodor," which has scheduled road repair and maintenance work in the Shevchenkivskyi district for the specified period.
Where exactly the restrictions will be introduced
The announced traffic restrictions will affect one of the busiest central intersections in the capital — the intersection of Holova Vasylkivska Street and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard. This location is in close proximity to Bessarabska Square and the "Ploshcha Ukrainy" (Heroes of Ukraine Square) metro station. The KCCA clarified that over the two-week period, specialists from the Road Operations Department (ROD) for the repair and maintenance of roads and structures in the Shevchenkivskyi district will carry out maintenance and repair work on the road surface at the specified section.
Why this intersection is critically important for traffic
The intersection of Holova Vasylkivska Street and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard is one of the key transport hubs in Kyiv, through which a significant flow of vehicles, including public transport, passes daily. Holova Vasylkivska Street is a major artery connecting Lybid Square with the central part of the city and providing movement in the north-eastern direction. Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, in turn, links the western part of Kyiv — in particular the area around the railway station and Beresteiskyi Prospekt — with Khreshchatyk and the central blocks. Thus, the temporary restriction of traffic at this intersection will affect several of the city's main transport arteries simultaneously.
Expected consequences for drivers
Given the high throughput capacity of this hub and the concentration of traffic flows, noticeable traffic jams are likely under the temporary restriction at the intersection of Holova Vasylkivska Street and Shevchenko Boulevard, especially during peak hours. Drivers who use this location for daily commutes are advised to plan their routes in advance and allow for possible delays. Public transport passing through this intersection may also experience schedule disruptions over the two-week work period.
Context: large-scale road works in Kyiv
The introduced restrictions are part of a broader repair program that the municipal enterprise "Kyivavtodor" is implementing on the capital's road infrastructure this year. It was previously reported on the partial closure of one of the bridges on Beresteiskyi Prospekt to pedestrians until autumn, as well as on a number of road and bridge repairs planned for the year. The two-week restriction at the intersection of Holova Vasylkivska Street and Shevchenko Boulevard fits into this overall cycle of work on updating Kyiv's road network.
