Kyiv launches new algorithm for the metro's 'green' line operation under yellow threat level in test mode

On September 9, a new algorithm for the operation of the Syretsko-Pecherska ("green") metro line went live in Kyiv in test mode, tied to the yellow level of air threat. As clarified by the "Kyiv Metro" municipal enterprise, under the yellow level trains run along their usual route, connecting the right and left banks of the Dnipro River, and the established procedure for escalating danger transitions to permanent mode on September 10.

Test launch and current status

Metro specialists are completing the verification of the procedure and the interaction between train drivers, dispatchers, and on-duty station staff. It was precisely in test mode on September 9 that the scenarios were rehearsed, which from the following day will be established as the permanent algorithm. The goal of the innovation is to ensure predictable movement and passenger safety regardless of the declared threat level.

Operation under the yellow threat level

Under the yellow level of air danger, trains on the "green" line retain their usual route and run without restrictions along the entire line, including the above-ground section connecting the right and left banks of the Dnipro River. For passengers, the familiar transfer scheme and travel time will remain largely unchanged in most cases.

Scenario for the red threat level

If the red level of air threat is declared, trains will not run along the above-ground section of the line. Passengers will have to exit at underground stations and remain there as a shelter until the danger is over. During this time, movement is organized on two separate sections: between "Syrets" and "Vydubychi" stations, and between "Osokorky" and "Krasnyi Khutir" stations.

Transition to permanent mode

From September 10, the described algorithm will operate permanently: under the yellow threat level, trains on the "green" line will be able to run without restrictions, while under the red level they will switch to separate movement along underground sections, with passengers waiting at shelter stations.

Passenger information and related restrictions

Passengers are informed about the operating mode through announcements in carriages and at stations; the metro urges people to carefully monitor messages and follow staff instructions. It is also reminded that in Kyiv the holding of mass outdoor events is temporarily restricted, as well as at facilities and territories where equipped shelters are absent.
