Due to the increasing intensity of hostile attacks on critical infrastructure, the capital authorities have urged Kyiv residents to build up necessary individual reserves in case of emergency and crisis situations. This precautionary measure is driven by the ongoing threat to the stability of the city's energy grid and the need to ensure the basic survival needs of the population during potential prolonged power and water outages.
Preparation of Strategic Water and Food Reserves
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, citizens must first create at least a three-day water supply. Specialist calculations show that one adult requires about 3 liters of drinking water per day, along with 10 to 12 liters of utility water for household needs. In addition, residents are strongly advised to stock up on long-shelf-life food products that do not require complex cooking or electric stoves.
Infrastructure Support and Autonomous Sources
Municipal services and energy companies are operating around the clock to promptly restore damaged networks, yet authorities urge maximum self-reliance. In the event of a total blackout, 155 pump room complexes equipped with backup generators will operate across the city. Their updated list, addresses, and working hours can be easily checked via a special interactive electronic map.
Housing Insulation and Personal Safety
Besides water and food reserves, Kyiv residents should check the condition of power banks and charging stations, and stock up on flashlights, battery-powered lamps, candles, and matches. To minimize heat loss at home, experts advise sealing window joints and installing thermal insulation materials between walls and radiators. In conditions of shorter daylight hours and potential street lighting disruptions, citizens are also advised to wear reflective clothing.
