Alexander Lukashenko has stated the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, warning the global community of the risk of a Third World War. According to him, there is currently no alternative to a peaceful diplomatic settlement, as all participants in the confrontation have already experienced deep fatigue from the conflict. The Belarusian side expressed its readiness to provide a platform for negotiations and welcome all parties interested in ending the escalation.
Assessment of the Situation and the Role of Western Countries in the Conflict
According to Lukashenko, the hostilities in Ukraine are already having a direct impact on Belarus, although official Minsk is taking all necessary measures to prevent the country from being directly drawn into the armed confrontation. He claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin is aware of attempts to draw Minsk into the orbit of hostilities and is also not interested in such a scenario. In addition, the Belarusian leader expressed the view that the Russian Federation is opposing the entire collective West in this conflict.
During his statements, Lukashenko also criticized Western capitals, noting that they allegedly do not fully realize the scale and threat of a potential global military clash for which they are preparing. Against this backdrop, he positively assessed the diplomatic efforts of US President Donald Trump aimed at reducing the level of escalation, stating that the American politician prevented the development of a nuclear scenario in Europe.
Humanitarian Aspect and Regional Tensions
The Belarusian leader paid special attention in his speech to the humanitarian component, reporting on a large-scale reception of Ukrainian citizens. Since the beginning of the full-scale hostilities, about half a million Ukrainians have arrived in Belarus. According to official Minsk, no interethnic or social conflicts with the displaced persons have been recorded; they have found shelter in the republic and secured employment.
Meanwhile, the situation around the Belarusian borders remains complex amid ongoing regional and geopolitical risks. The Ukrainian leadership had previously stated Moscow's plans to expand its military presence and deploy ballistic missiles on Belarusian territory. At the same time, tension persists on the western borders of Belarus, where Latvian border guards record attempts by groups of migrants to illegally cross the border with the support of armed individuals.
Significance of Statements and Possible Prospects
The voiced statements reflect official Minsk's desire to position itself as a potential negotiation center while maintaining a strategic alliance with Moscow. Such messages are aimed at both the international community and the domestic audience to demonstrate peace-making efforts. The further development of the situation will depend on the overall dynamics of hostilities, the position of key global players, and the degree of implementation of military plans in the region.
