Last night, Ukraine faced one of the largest drone attacks in recent times. Russian forces launched 181 strike drones of various types into the country. These included the well-known 'Shaheds', as well as newer models such as 'Gerbera', 'Italmas', and 'Parody' imitation drones.
Scale and Directions of the Attack
The assault was coordinated across multiple directions simultaneously, indicating an attempt to overwhelm air defense systems. Drones approached through border zones in the Bryansk, Kursk, and Oryol regions, as well as through the Belgorod region (Millerovo, Shatalovo). Separate drone streams passed through occupied territories — Donetsk and Hvardiiske in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as through Crimea.
Air Defense Results
Ukraine’s air defense systems demonstrated high effectiveness. As of 07:30 AM, 163 enemy drones had been shot down or neutralized. Air threat interception efforts were carried out in the north, south, and east of the country. Despite the massive scale of the attack, Ukrainian defenders managed to intercept the overwhelming majority of targets.
Nevertheless, breaches in the defense occurred at several locations. It has been confirmed that 14 strike drones hit 13 locations. Additionally, debris from downed drones was recorded falling on two other territories. Due to the ongoing threat in the airspace, authorities urge citizens to strictly adhere to safety protocols.
Retaliatory Strikes and Strategy
The attack on Ukraine is taking place against the backdrop of active counter-offensive operations by Ukraine’s Defense Forces deep within Russian territory. In recent days, Ukrainian forces have successfully struck four oil refineries and a maritime terminal in Russia. Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported an attack on an oil refinery in Volgograd.
Particular attention is drawn to the strike on the Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU). The university, which specializes in the development and production of unmanned systems, suffered significant damage. This incident demonstrates that Ukraine is deliberately targeting infrastructure that supports the production of drones used to attack its own country.
