On the night of October 9, 2026, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale air attack across Ukraine, deploying 136 strike drones of various modifications. According to Ukrainian military agencies, the enemy actively used Shahed-type kamikaze drones, a significant portion of which were modern jet-powered modifications, as well as Gerbera drones and Parody decoy drones designed to overwhelm air defense systems.

Geography of Launches and Strike Directions

The intensive launch of air attack weapons was carried out from several strategic directions. Enemy devices took off from Russian regions, including Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine — Donetsk and the settlement of Hvardiiske in Crimea. The use of a wide geography of launches was aimed at complicating the operation of radar stations and distributing the resources of Ukrainian air defense across various operational areas.

Efficiency of Ukrainian Air Defense Operations

Thanks to the coordinated actions of the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, during the repulsion of the night raid, it was possible to neutralize 114 enemy targets out of 136 recorded. This number included both UAVs shot down by fire weapons and drones of various types suppressed by electronic warfare forces, including jet-powered Shaheds. Nevertheless, it was not possible to completely avoid consequences: hits by air attack weapons were recorded at eight locations, and the fall of debris from downed devices was noted in seven areas.

Reaction of Neighboring Countries and Local Consequences

The large-scale nature of the air alert led to preventive measures outside of Ukraine. On the night of October 9, the command of the Polish Armed Forces decided to scramble combat aviation to protect its airspace due to the threat from drones heading towards the western regions of Ukraine. Polish ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance were also put on high combat readiness. Simultaneously, morning strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, where, according to updated operational data, one civilian was killed and seven others sustained injuries of varying severity.
