In the conditions of modern warfare, where strike FPV drones have become one of the main factors in the destruction of equipment, Ukrainian military personnel are forced to seek non-standard solutions to protect their combat vehicles. As noted by the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko, the war is changing not only tactics — it is transforming the very appearance of combat equipment. What might have seemed like a set for a post-apocalyptic movie just a few years ago has today become a reality on the front lines.
Engineering Adaptation: From Mesh to Camouflage
The response to the mass use of kamikaze drones has been mesh frames, additional protective structures, and non-standard engineering solutions. These elements are designed to increase the survivability of equipment and give the crew a better chance of completing their combat mission and returning alive. Mesh installed over armored vehicles can intercept explosive devices before they make contact with the hull, reducing the likelihood of critical damage.
Strategic Logistics: Protecting Routes
Since the beginning of 2026, specialists from the State Special Transport Service have equipped more than 1,184 kilometers of anti-drone protection on strategically important logistical routes. This has allowed for a significant reduction in equipment losses during movement through rear zones and ensured uninterrupted delivery of ammunition and food to the front lines.
Armoring Effectiveness: Combat Experience
Ukrainian armored vehicles have demonstrated high effectiveness in the most intense areas of combat. Their armored capsules are capable of withstanding strikes from kamikaze drones and fire from heavy machine guns, ensuring reliable protection for the crews. This has been made possible thanks to the constant improvement of designs and the introduction of new materials.

While the National Guard of Ukraine command emphasizes the effectiveness of mesh frames, some experts point to their limited effectiveness against high-speed drones or those carrying powerful warheads. Furthermore, the installation of such structures can reduce the mobility of equipment and complicate its maintenance. Thus, the question of the optimal balance between protection and functionality remains open.

As Oleksandr Pivnenko stated, modern warfare is constant adaptation. Victory belongs to those who learn faster, implement new solutions, and outpace the enemy in technology and tactics.
