In 2026, the Defense Procurement Agency within Ukraine's Ministry of Defense system is demonstrating unprecedented rates of contracting and supplying unmanned systems. According to official data from the defense department, the volume of contracted UAVs has increased by 300% compared to the previous year.
Strategic Goals and Application Levels
As emphasized by Ukraine's Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara, the key task of the agency is to provide the Ukrainian army with drones for effective operation at every level: tactical, operational, and strategic. Special attention is paid to deep strike assets for targeting deep within Russian territory, as well as middle strike drones designed to destroy enemy UAV crews, disrupt logistics, and eliminate command posts.
Contract Scaling and Delivery Growth
The dynamics of deliveries illustrate a radical change in troop supply volumes. Over the past months, the Defense Procurement Agency has contracted various types of drones approximately 5.5 times more than in the same period of 2025. In the FPV drone segment, 2026 figures already exceed the total contracting volume for the entire previous year by 54%, while physical deliveries have increased nearly 3.7 times.
Success Factors and Defense Industry Development
Such a breakthrough became possible due to targeted support from Ukraine's international partners and the successful scaling of the domestic defense-industrial complex's capabilities. Long-term contract predictability allows Ukrainian manufacturers to build stable production processes, optimize logistics, and order necessary components on time.
Missile Armament Prospects
In parallel with scaling unmanned aviation, Ukraine is actively developing the production of its own engines and missile weapons. The focus includes the creation of jet interceptors, middle and deep strike assets, and cruise missiles, although this area involves high technological complexity and dependence on foreign supplies of power plants.
