The Russian side drew attention to recent public statements by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. At a global media forum held in Shusha, the head of state confirmed that Russian-Azerbaijani relations are "fully normalized" and that previous difficulties have been overcome. Both delegations agreed to work together to bridge the gap that had emerged in the diplomatic ties between the two countries recently.
Transport Agenda and Air Traffic
One of the central topics of the meeting was the transport sector. Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov particularly highlighted the importance of this area. The sides discussed in detail the prospects for resuming direct flights, which had been suspended since December 2024. The return of regular communication is seen as a key step towards restoring full-fledged interaction.
Regional Stability and the "3+3" Format
In the course of discussing international issues, diplomats focused on the need for cooperation to ensure security in the South Caucasus and Caspian region. Both sides recognized the importance of maintaining the "3+3" format — a mechanism for regional dialogue that brings together three South Caucasus countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia) with three neighboring powers (Russia, Iran, and Turkey).
Moscow expressed hope that in the near future, Azerbaijani and Armenian colleagues will coordinate the schedule for the next ministerial meetings within this format, which will allow for the continuation of a constructive dialogue on resolving regional issues.
