On the morning of October 21, Russian forces launched an attack on the gas production infrastructure of the Naftogaz Group in the Kharkiv region. An enemy drone struck one of the installations located directly on the company's production site, causing an emergency situation.
Extent of Damage and Assessment Challenges
Specialists are currently working at the scene, but due to the ongoing operational situation, a full assessment of the consequences of the strike is currently difficult. Company representatives note that detailed data on the scale of destruction will be released after all necessary technical and evaluation measures are completed.
Systemic Attacks on the Energy Sector
According to Serhiy Fedorenko, Acting Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Russian forces continue to systematically target the country's oil and gas infrastructure. He stated that since the beginning of the year, the enemy has carried out more than 400 strikes against Naftogaz Group facilities, which is twice as many as last year.
Previous Attacks on Company Assets
This incident follows a series of recent attacks on holding facilities. Specifically, on the night of October 12, an enemy strike in the Kharkiv region caused a fire and damaged critical equipment at a gas production site. Additionally, on October 15, a similar attack was recorded in the Poltava region, and earlier in the month, a utility vehicle carrying repair crews was targeted.
Significance and Further Outlook
Regular attacks on gas production capacities pose severe challenges for Ukraine's energy stability ahead of the heating season. Naftogaz management and relevant services are focusing their efforts on personnel safety, rapid emergency response, and minimizing risks to regional gas supplies.
