The Command of the National Guard of Ukraine intends to take additional decisions after the incident in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka and review the rules for stationing military personnel in major cities. According to RBC-Ukraine, this was stated by the Commander of the National Guard, Oleksandr Pivenko. He noted that a meeting with commanders analyzed the course of events that unfolded on November 2 in the Kyiv region.

Investigation and Personal Responsibility

The leadership of the National Guard, as Pivenko stated, will make decisions based on the results of an internal investigation and hold officials accountable if negligence is detected. The commander emphasized that commanders bear personal responsibility not only for fulfilling assigned tasks but also for the lives and safety of their subordinates.

Reviewing Deployment Approaches

The decision to review approaches to placing temporary deployment points in major cities, according to the commander, has also become part of the package of measures discussed at the meeting with commanders. Thus, the agency is reacting to a situation where a facility in the Kyiv region found itself at the epicenter of a mass gathering of people.

Work with Mobilized Personnel and Returnees from Unauthorized Absence

The meeting separately discussed the reception of mobilized personnel, their medical examinations, the quality of training, and the provision of assistance to fighters returning after unauthorized abandonment of their unit (AWOL).

What Happened in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka

As a reminder, on the evening of November 2, a mass incident occurred near the temporary deployment point of a National Guard military unit in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv. A group of people gathered near the base following the spread of information that military personnel who had arbitrarily left their units were allegedly being illegally detained and beaten in the basements, and that there were fatalities. The situation quickly escalated into a crush and clashes that lasted until late at night. Subsequently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs refuted these accusations, stating that reports of torture and deaths were fake and a deliberate provocation aimed at destabilizing the situation and discrediting National Guard servicemen.

Call to Society

«The National Guard is a big family. And I will not allow guardsmen to be insulted or humiliated,» Pivenko stated, calling on society to treat people in military uniform with respect.
